By Kenya England

A gated community also called a walled community is a type of residential area which is walled and has several gates around it. The walls and gates are meant to control entrance of people, automobiles, and bicycles. The walls may be more than one in some instances. As such, when one is looking for a residence in gated communities Amelia Island is the best place to visit. There are several such place on the island that one can get a good home in.

The gate area may be guarded by a security staff to ensure that only residents of the community go through. Residents may be issued with identification documents, which they must present to the security staff every time they want to enter. In some communities, the gates are automatic and can only be opened by people who have key cards. The gates may also be operated by remote controls.

The location of a walled community can be anywhere including cities, towns, and rural areas. They vary in sizes as dictated by various factors. The number of houses may be very small, usually just a couple in the small ones. On the other hand, the large one can have several houses. Residents share amenities while streets are very small. Parks, swimming pools, community centers, marinas, golf courses, tennis courts, on-site dining, clubs, and playgrounds are among the amenities available.

Residents of these sites spend most of their time within the community. They may only come out when going to work or other activities. Most of their needs can be satisfied within the walls. They have shopping centers and other places where they can get personal and household supplies without having to go out.

Some of the factors that determine amenities available in a community include community fees and structure, geographical location, and demographic composition. Generally, small communities have fewer social amenities than bigger ones. Amenities available could also be dependent on the type of housing available. Housing may be for individuals or single-families or other kinds.

Residents of gated communities usually share a common view concerning life. One of the reasons they may have is to protect their families from negative influence from mainstream society. Another reason is achieving high physical security and safety. Thirdly, another reason most people opt for such residences is to maintain personal privacy. The walls offer a sense of privacy that they enjoy.

People also live in those areas as a way of promoting their way of life. Therefore they meet like-minded people and advance their lifestyle. Gates are also viewed by some people as a source of prestige and so by living inside a walled community, they feel good.

The safety availed by this living setting has been argued to be false by many critics. Non-gated neighborhoods have been determined to have the same crime rate as these communities. Crime happening inside the walls is higher due to low traffic. High traffic in a place deters criminal behavior. People can also offer help when there is a scenario.
