Ladbrokes chiefs scolded at shareholder meeting by Dermot Desmond

Celtic FC owner criticises planned Gala Coral merger and says bookmaker’s ‘abysmal’ management should have no right to negotiate a deal

The management of Ladbrokes has endured a stinging attack from Dermot Desmond at a shareholder meeting although the Irish billionaire failed in his attempt to scupper the bookmaker’s £2.3bn merger with Gala Coral.

Desmond, who owns Celtic Football Club, turned up in person to the meeting which was called to ratify the deal to create the UK’s biggest bookmaker. The deal effectively involves privately owned Gala Coral buying Ladbrokes and listing on the stock exchange.
