By Jason McDonald

To say that there are numerous banks would be an understatement, especially in America. However, some establishments are larger than others, and for good reason. Whether it's due to recognition, service, or what have you, these establishments are known not only in America but the world over. For a better understanding of the topic at hand, here is some information regarding the top 4 banks in the country, courtesy of Robert Jain.

Citigroup - When it comes to banking in America, Citigroup is one of the largest names that names such as Bob Jain can draw attention to. It has done more than well from a banking standpoint, given its value of over $1.8 billion in assets. The Citi Field baseball stadium, home of the New York Mets, is further proof of this company's success. Of course, this is just one of the many names in American banking to be aware of.

Wells Fargo - With over $1.9 billion in total assets, Wells Fargo is the third largest bank in the world. Located in San Francisco, California, it was founded more than 165 years ago on March 18, 1852. Not only is it a big name from a banking standpoint, but it also operates 11 locations collectively known as the Wells Fargo History Museum. These locations are scattered across 11 locations, Charlotte, North Carolina and Los Angeles, California included, and they are must-see locations for those that are intrigued by finance.

Bank of America - This is the second largest bank, as far as total assets are concerned, as they are collectively valued at over $2.2 billion. Bank of America's headquarters are in Charlotte, North Carolina, and the company's history dates back to 1904, when it was known as Bank of Italy. During this time, the company was focused on assisting those that were moving into the United States. As time went on, the company expanded and currently assists clients from a litany of locations.

JPMorgan Chase - Valued at over $2.5 billion in terms of total assets, JPMorgan Chase is seen as the largest bank in America. While it was founded under its current name in 2000, its predecessor, Bank of the Manhattan Company, was founded in 1799. The company in question operates in different locations, but its headquarters can be found in Midtown Manhattan, New York. When it comes to big banks, JPMorgan Chase is the name that ranks highest.
