Some Methods For ATM Fraud Prevention Australia

By Daniel Watson

If you want to count those people that use ATM cards a lot, you would have to include Australians as one of the top users. This is so because most of their stores support the cashless policy. This means that people prefer to carry the ATM cards to where they can use it to buy goods and services. Shops without the POS are fast accepting it as a method of payment to support ATM fraud prevention Australia.

One of the steps to take is to avoid using any ATM machine you are not sure of. If you find them where you are not sure of, you are advised not to use such. The real ones are either located in the bank, shopping malls or on the streets. Even when they are not in any bank, you should be sure that you can identify the owner.

Going to an ATM in the night is not ideal. You will not be easily helped if someone attacks you while trying to complete a transaction. Only in cases of emergency should this be done and even when it must be done, you should go in the company of some friends.

Change your PIN anytime if you suspect that someone you don't trust knows it. Do it soon and do not wait too long before doing so. Similarly, try to change the PIN when you first receive the card. It would be needful to do this before you start getting money into the account.

Walk into your bank and find out how you can get notifications via phone and emails. The essence is to get alerts whenever your bank account gets a transaction. If it is a debit alert from any machine, it will tell you how much was withdrawn as well as the address where it happened. The same applies for withdrawals through a POS. Any attempt to defraud you will be quickly noticed and you can make calls to the police and the bank for an urgent intervention. The bank will block the account and get photos of the criminal if the ATM has a camera installed.

If your card is the bank card, you would have to call if it is trapped. But not every machine is from a bank so you should know who installed a machine before using it. It is better to have a jacket for the card but when you don't have it, you can use your wallet or the pouch of your phone.

If you know you do not need the receipts for the transaction you are doing, simply select "No" when you are asked. If not, tear the receipts into shreds when you finish reading them. Don't give anyone the chance to take a look of your account details especially when you don't trust them.

Some card owners are in the habit of using their date of birth as their PIN. This is wrong because someone can easily get this correct and steal every cent you have saved. Make sure you change it for something more challenging and when you have successfully come up with one, try not to write it down so that someone else will never see it.
