Travelers Companies, Inc. (TRV) reported a profit for the first-quarter 2016 that declined 17 percent from the prior year, primarily due to higher catastrophe losses mainly arising out of hail storms that occurred in Texas in late March. Operating income per share missed analysts' expectations, while quarterly revenues topped their estimates.
