BHP Billiton Posts Loss In Fiscal Year - Quick Facts

BHP Billiton plc (BHP.AX, BLT.L, BBL, BHP) reported a loss before tax of $7.3 billion for the year ended 30 June 2016 compared to profit of $8.1 billion, last year. Loss after taxation from continuing operations was $6.2 billion compared to profit of $4.4 billion. Loss per share in cents from continuing operations was 120.0 compared to profit of 65.3. The Group noted that its attributable loss of $6.4 billion for the year ended 30 June 2016 included $7.7 billion of exceptional items (after tax) related to: an impairment charge of $4.9 billion against the carrying value of the Onshore US assets; $2.2 billion for the financial impacts of the Samarco dam failure on the Group's income statement; and $570 million for global taxation matters.
